Hepatitis A Outbreak in Springfield

The News Leader has reported that an infected employee at the Red Robin restaurant, located at 3720 S. Glenstone, has potentially exposed up to 5,000 customers to the Hepatitis A virus. People at risk of infection are those who ate at the local restaurant in the weeks leading up to the May 16th discovery of the exposure.

The Appellate Judicial Commission and the Missouri Non-Partisan Court Plan

It has been my privilege to serve on the Appellate Judicial Commission, and I am now finishing my six-year term of service. During these six years, the Commission has made nominations from which 15 of Missouri’s 39 appellate judge positions have been filled. I am proud of this body of work. These people are good judges; they are Republicans and Democrats, men and women, older and younger, racially diverse, and from a variety of law-practice backgrounds. Most importantly, all are smart, competent professionals who have now been appointed to do a job where smart, competent professionals are required.

Doctors’ Mistakes

The era when doctors were placed on pedestals – where they were considered to do no wrong – is over. This is as it should be. Doctors are human, and the medical clinics where they work are staffed by humans. Like all humans, they make mistakes. Any reasonable review of the available data shows that they make lots of mistakes. This reality is acknowledged in a lead article published this week in the Wall Street Journal.
